Self-Drive vs Chauffeur Hire: Which Is Right for You?

Behind the wheel or in the back seat? The right choice depends on the occasion. Here's how to decide.

18 September 2026

One of the first decisions when hiring a luxury car is whether to drive it yourself or be driven. Both have their place, and the best choice comes down to the occasion. Here's how to think about it.

When self-drive wins

If the experience you're after is the drive itself — a supercar for a birthday, a spirited weekend, a road trip or simply the thrill of the car — self-drive is the way. You get the keys and the freedom, whether for a day, a weekend or longer. Age, licence and deposit requirements vary by vehicle, and we confirm everything clearly before you book.

When chauffeur wins

For weddings, corporate events, proms and airport transfers, chauffeur-driven is usually the better choice. You arrive relaxed and composed, there's no parking or responsibility to think about, and a professional takes care of the journey while you focus on the occasion.

Some cars, either way

Many of our vehicles are available both ways, so you're not locked in — tell us the occasion and we'll recommend the right option and the right car for it.

Not sure? Just ask

Share your plans and we'll suggest whether self-drive or chauffeur suits best, and confirm availability for your dates.
